ALON USA is a significant contributor to the communities we serve. Through community and title sponsored events, ALON USA and its employees donate time, money and talent in support of various worthwhile programs within the communities we serve.
When ALON USA purchased the downstream refining and marketing assets of Atofina Petrochemicals, Inc. (FINA) in August of 2000, ALON assumed the title sponsorship for the FINA-CAF AIRSHO. Held in Midland, Texas, annually during the fall, the FINA-CAF AIRSHO attracts more than 40,000 visitors each year. The FINA-CAF AIRSHO hosts the world's largest gathering of World War II aircraft, ranging from bombers and fighters to trainers and foreign aircraft. “Fifi”, the world's only flying B-29 Superfortress, and “Diamond Lil”, a B-24/LB30 and the oldest surviving Liberator, are maintained at the Commemorative Air force (CAF) headquarters in Midland. ALON USA and FINA are proud to be associated with the CAF and the American Airpower Heritage Museum located at the CAF headquarters in Midland. Jan Collmer and the FINA Extra 300L One of AIRHSO's featured aerobatic performers is Jan Collmer, pilot of the FINA Extra 300L. Jan has flown in over 200 airshow performances from coast to coast. Jan began flying in the U.S. Navy, and flew many of the Navy's early jets, including the great gunfighter, the Vought F8 Crusader. He received his gold wings at NAS Corpus Christi, Texas after completing advanced training in the Navy's F9F-2 Panther jet. Jan retired as a Lt. Commander after four years of active duty and eight years in the active reserve. You can check Jan's airshow schedule at www.collmer.com.
ALON USA employees and their families have participated in the American Heart Walk since 2001. All money raised will go to fund further research and educational programs of the American Heart Association. ALON USA contributes to the American Heart Association by subsidizing each employee and family member who participates in the walk each year.
Communities In Schools ALON USA's President and CEO, Jeff Morris, sits on the Board of Trustees of this worthwhile organization. Communities In Schools (CIS) helps at-risk young people stay in school, successfully learn, and prepare for life. CIS brings resources, volunteers and service providers into schools and trains them to work together as one coordinated team on behalf of students.
Employees at the Big Spring refinery and ALON USA contribute to various local charities such as United Way, Christmas in April, Relay for Life, Heart Walk, Multiple Sclerosis Walk, numerous athletic causes, area softball programs, Little League sponsorships, college sporting events, and memberships for youth at the YMCA. These are only a few of the important causes ALON USA and its employees support in Big Spring and Howard County. |
